Southern Dandenongs Community Nursery Transformation

SDCN Transformation

Southern Dandenong Community Nursery Transformation is a project for a community-run nursery that propagates Indigenous plants endemic to the local area. The nursery already operates as ecological infrastructure, education space, volunteer network and public resource. The project looks at how the site can better support that work. Shade, shelter, propagation areas, storage, circulation, gathering space, teaching areas, access and public interface all become part of the architectural brief. The focus is practical, but the ambition is civic. The transformation is about strengthening an existing community asset. The nursery does not need to become polished or institutional. It needs better infrastructure, clearer spatial organisation, and more capacity to keep doing the work it already does: growing plants, sharing knowledge, supporting volunteers and repairing local ecologies.
