Garden Addition House

Garden Addition House is an alteration to an existing inner-north house. The project begins with a simple domestic brief: more space, better light, a better connection to the garden, and a house that can support daily life with less friction. The design process tested several ways of extending the house, including a more ambitious rear addition and a more compact westward move. Each option was measured against cost, construction logic, and the usefulness of the existing building. The aim was not to produce the largest version of the project, but the most effective one. The preferred strategy keeps the intervention concentrated. Existing rooms are retained where they still have value, and new work is placed where it can reorganise the rear of the house, improve the living spaces, and create a clearer relationship to the garden.
